XTreme Makeover Service Project

I had the opportunity this weekend to organize the Xtreme Makeover Service Project for the Stake Relief Society Women's Conference. We (Teri Z., the Stake RS President & me) started coming up with ideas back in June or so. We had planned on doing the entire Xtreme Makeover Project in one facility. We were going to paint an accent wall, make curtains and comforters and artwork for 7 rooms AND makeover their kid room. Because of a unfortunate turn of events which left us disheartened, we were forced to look in a different direction. The Lord works in mysterious ways! ;) Teri contacted First Link {FirstLink’s is a local group whose mission is to assist people in identifying, accessing, and making effective use of community and volunteer resources.} and had them send out an email with information of what we would like to do to all their contacts. The response was overwhelming. Teri and I spent the next several months meeting with different organizations and coming up with projects we could do for them. It has been an awesome opportunity to meet, work with and serve so many amazing people and their organizations in our community. Teri figured (not including the prep time or the extra hours people went early) we were able to complete over 300 hours of service on just Friday night ! Wowzers! That's a lot of time! And what a great opportunity to be of service to our community. "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God."- Mosiah 2:17
Thank heavens it's over LOL! but what a great way to start out our Women's Conference in the right spirit!
